Want to make your own "Map the Music?"

"Map YOUR music" - a new collaboration from music lovers around the world.

Here is what you need to be a part of it :
  • A love of music. Particularly going to see live shows.
  • A video camera. Doesn’t have to be fancy. iPhone/Flip cam etc would work
  • A interest in why other people love music as much as you do.

Here is what you do :

Pick an artist you love who has a show coming up. Do what I did. Go up to people in line at the concert and ask them what music means to them. How does it help them in their lives? Why are they excited to see the artist they are about to see. How many times have they seen them and where are they from? Where would they be without music? Or come up with your own music themed questions. If you are at a smaller venue and you see some of the musicians hanging out and talking to people go up to them and ask them if they would be kind of enough to answer on camera about why they decided devote their life to music. And if you want to get fancy you can edit in clips of the performing. Get creative and make it up as you go along like I did!

I think together we could make an amazing piece about why MUSIC MATTERS to be included in a new project, or in the third edition release of Map the Music depending on how many submissions we get. I uploaded a clip with Adam Lambert fans as an example of what you could do.

This is OUR film. Lets start a music movement. You in?

FAQs

Q: Why did you chose to feature Imogen Heap?

A: Imogen is brilliant. Not to mention she is one of the most genuine, original, and gracious artists you will ever meet. When my dad passed away, my only way of dealing with it was going to concerts, and Imogen and Zoe Keating were on tour together at the time. So when I got the idea for Map the Music, it just felt right that both of them would be a huge part of it. Plus Imogen has some amazing fans so it made sense to go on her tour for the majority of the filming. Actually, Zoe was the very first person to know about the project.

Q: Did you go to film school?

A: Nope. I don't think going to college is the only way to be successful. I think its great for some people, but not for everyone. I just knew I had this idea and that I would make it up as I went along. And I still am to be honest. I asked a lot of questions, knew what I wanted, and was not afraid to make mistakes. And I did of course, so I surrounded myself with people who understood what I was trying to do and was not afraid to ask for help. Still learning. Still asking...

Q: How did you fund this project?

A: With a national commercial I booked for VISA. They weren't kidding when they said its everywhere you want to be.

Q: How did you get the artists in the film involved?

A: I found an opportunity to talk to them, and I asked if I could set up an interview. Then once I had that going, I asked if I could meet up with them on tour to get some B roll and it just kept growing from there...I was honest about where I was coming from and I what I hoped to achieve with the film. I figured the worst that could happen would be they say no. Once I had Imogen on board, most everyone else was too. I am still so incredibly grateful for that.

Q: Why is Jim Bianco in a bathtub? (This is a question you might ask after you see the film.)

A: Because he's Jim Bianco.
